Meskwaki Settlement School has been selected to receive national recognition as a National Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Distinguished School by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA).
Since 1996, the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program has recognized schools across the nation for exceptional student achievement and success. This prestigious program highlights federally funded schools that demonstrate excellence through measurable student outcomes, innovation in instruction, and dedication to educational excellence and continuous improvement. Each year, schools are recognized in one of three categories:
- Exceptional student performance and academic growth
- Closing the achievement gap between student groups
- Excellence in serving special populations of students.
Meskwaki Settlement School is being honored in Category 1: Exceptional Student Performance and Academic Growth. This recognition reflects the sustained efforts of our leadership, teachers, staff, and students in achieving high levels of academic excellence. Based on the Bureau of Indian Education’s accountability indicators, including English Language Arts, Math, Science, Graduation rate, and Attendance, our school has demonstrated consistent success and continuous growth over three consecutive years, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.
This selection places Meskwaki Settlement School among an elite group of only 100 schools nationwide recognized in 2025 for their outstanding contributions to student learning and achievement. With this recognition, the school will receive a one-time award of $75,000 to further advance our efforts in student achievement and continuous school improvement.
