Get to know your Meskwaki Settlement school board members:

The school board consists of 5 members, serving 4 year terms, with terms expiring every 2 years. Our regular meetings are tentatively scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of the month 5pm in the high school library. (Check the Meskwaki high school Facebook page for scheduling changes) Our regular meetings are open for the community to attend.

We plan to periodically update the community on school board items and progress on the strategic plan. Be on the lookout for updates in future newsletters.

Thank you for your support of our school and students!

Waylon Wolf
School Board Chairman

My name is Waylon Wolf, and I currently serve as Chairman of the Meskwaki Settlement School Board. I’m a proud father of four children and three traditionally adopted children, all of whom attend Meskwaki Settlement School, ranging from 3rd to 11th grade. Being a parent in this community is what first inspired me to get involved.

I joined the School Board because I wanted to give back—to lend my time and whatever knowledge I could offer. But more importantly, I joined to listen and to learn. I believe that to truly serve our students and families, we as board members need to understand the inner workings of our school system. That’s why I’ve even taken steps to return to higher education myself—to grow as a role model and to better support the work we do on the board.

As Socrates once said, “There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.” That quote has stuck with me and continues to guide my approach to service and leadership. I’m especially focused on learning more about curriculum, school finances, and the hiring of administrative staff. These are areas I believe are critical to the long-term success of our school, and I hope to continue growing in these areas so I can serve our students and community to the best of my ability.

Charle Shuckahosee
School Board Vice Chairman

Hello Warrior Community! On behalf of the Meskwaki Settlement School Board of Education, welcome! I am Charlie Shuckahosee and I joined the Board in the Fall of 2024. We are the community’s representatives responsible for setting policies and providing oversight to ensure a safe and academically excellent environment for every student in our school.

To help us be successful we understand the social, ethical, cultural and economic impact of education to our community. As a parent, I am proud of the many strengths and achievements of our school. At the same time, I am also aware of the concerns and suggestions that you do have as parents, educators, and community members. My role will involve facilitating open communication channels between the superintendent, the school board, and the community.

I believe the long-term vision of our school board will be to provide leadership and map out ways to help provide the students with the best available resources to reach a student’s full potential. In addition it is also important to prepare a student for life after high school and to become a productive member of society.

Hello, I’m Amanda Davenport. I am a lifelong resident and proud of the strides we have made over the years in Meskwaki education. I have been involved with the school for many years – as an employee, a supportive auntie, a (Lady) Warrior fan, and now as a school board member. I am serving my second term – first appointed in 2021 and then again in 2024.

My role as a school board member is to ensure that we not only continue to progress, but most of all, to ensure that Meskwaki youth receive a meaningful educational experience that allows them to thrive and succeed. To do this, I am committed to listening to and collaborating with the school community to brainstorm ideas and develop solutions that prioritize the needs of the youth.

I also strongly support Indigenous Education and aim to find ways to interweave Meskwaki values, language, and culture into our system of education.

Hello Meskwaki Warriors and families! My name is Shoshonis Brown, and I serve as one of five volunteer board members dedicated to supporting our students, staff, school, and community. Our board works as an extension of the Tribal Council, representing the community by creating policy that guides administration and ensuring oversight so students have a safe, challenging environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and culturally.

I am a parent of four children currently attending Meskwaki Settlement School—one in Elementary and three in High School—and one recent graduate now in college. My kids are active in sports, drama, speech, band, and student leadership, and they inspire me to set an example of service and commitment to both family and community.

Joining the school board was a big commitment, but one I value deeply. I believe our youth can rise above expectations when given the right tools and support, and that is the foundation we build through policy. While being a board member takes effort, it is rewarding, and I encourage others to consider serving in the future. Together, we can ensure our school becomes a leader in education and provides the best opportunities for our students.

Hello Meskwaki Warrior community. My name is Dalyn Wabaunasee and I have been on the board since September 2021. I have 4 children, 3 of whom graduated from MSS. My kids have been active in sports, speech, plays, and pretty much anything that was offered to them during their time here.

I wanted to be on the school board to help improve the school environment for students, staff and the community. I also wanted to give my time somehow to my community. I have learned that these responsibilities take a lot of time but I am happy to do it, most of the time. 🙂

I hope to see MSS be a leader in education. I want our kids to want to be at school and by creating a fun and safe environment I think this an attainable goal. I would like to see more language and culture in the school day. These are very broad goals and do take time and I believe with the support of our community we can get there.
