Tribal Council Release – MSS Board Members

Tribal Council is seeking two (2) more candidates for the Meskwaki Settlement School
Board. Interested individuals must submit an Affidavit of Candidacy to the Superintendent of the Meskwaki Settlement School no later than Thursday, June 3rd, 2021 at 4:30 PM. Affidavit of Candidacy Forms are available for pick-up in the Superintendent’s Office, 1610 305th Street, Tama, IA 52339.

Requirements for Meskwaki Settlement School Board Members:

1. Must be a Tribal member enrolled in the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa; or a non-enrolled descendant of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa, as evidenced by a Certificate of Indian Blood from the Enrollment Office of the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa.

2. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

3. Must be an immediate family member of a student currently attending the Meskwaki Settlement School (parent, legal guardian, grandparent, sibling, uncle, or aunt).

4. Must reside within twenty-five (25) miles of the Meskwaki Settlement.

5. Must complete an Affidavit of Candidacy.

6. Must pass a Background Check.

7. Immediate family members shall not serve on the School Board concurrently. Immediate family members are defined as: spouse/cohabitation, child, sibling, parent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, grandparent, and grandchild.

8. A member of the school board cannot be an employee of the Meskwaki Settlement School.

9. A member of the school board cannot be a sitting member of another Tribal board or committee or on the Tribal Council.
